Delivery specs for landscape AI video, as each vendor states them

Broadcast term: Apple ProRes

ProRes is Apple's family of editing codecs, from 422 Proxy to 4444 XQ, used as intermediate and master formats because they decode quickly and hold up to grading. From 1 source page, read 2026-09-25; no maker pays to be listed.

One vendor on the sheet delivers ProRes containers, including an HDR ProRes version.

A ProRes file is several times the size of an H.264 file of the same picture.

Editors ask for ProRes because it decodes frame by frame without the heavy processing long-GOP codecs need, which keeps a timeline responsive. The 4444 variants also carry an alpha channel.

Where a vendor delivers only H.264 MP4, the usual workflow is to transcode to ProRes before the edit; the picture does not improve, but the timeline behaves better.

The one vendor on the sheet that delivers ProRes lists six profiles, from 422 Proxy to 4444 XQ.

Its HDR ProRes delivery accepts three of them, 422, 422 HQ and 4444, with 422 HQ as the default, and its standard ProRes delivery defaults to 4444. No other vendor names an editing codec at all; the rest deliver MP4 or say nothing about the container.
